How a movie can make a lot sense with some of its defining moments......

We see a promotional photo of something, a short story is made up by our brain and we make out a conclusion out of it. Same happened with me when I looked at the posters of Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani released in 2013. the posters were full of glitters, celebrations and laughing faces plus the name suggests it.

My brain told me, "Budd, this is a roller coaster, fun filled, full on masala and zero story film. But hey, it will definitely lighten the mood. Leave logic behind and enjoy the wild ride of two & half hours. Go for it man."

Least did I know, I would end up watching the same movie three times in a single week at the Theatre. What is so captivating about it, that I repeatedly came back spending thrice the amount on a single movie, which usually we money-loving people don't do. This has to be special, right! It has has to have that zing to entice me into reliving it again and again. So I will focus on some specific scenes which shows the partially hidden side of this rom-com.

At the beginning, we see delivery of high-profile-glamorous-wedding-invitations adorned with sweets and gifts. One such reach Naina's home. We see a scene of a room filled with books.

An intro starts, "Kabhi Kabhi kuch baatein humare yadoon ki kamre ki itni khirkia khol deti hai, ki hum dang reh jatey hai." Naina sits on the floor reading a school magazine. browsing photos of her friends Aditi and  Avi and a series of memory bursts open on the multiplex screen.

"Bahut khubsorat hoti hai hyeh yaddon ki duniya, humare bittein hue kal ki choti choti tukre, humare yaddon mein humesha mehfoos rehti hai." The memory is so vivid, it makes her search more and more memories.

Then she is shown looking a profile (photo not shown onscreen) and looks up, the scene changes to another picture burst and we are shown the back of a man sitting with a fog admiring the natural scenery.

I realised, this movie is going to be something. Those vivid images showing a group running crazily among the tourists spots at sundown gave a feeling of the adventurer inside me. I had planned to buy an DSLR, and this movie sealed my decision.

The movie has some very iconic lines, which make us think twice. At first it will seem like its the same Old-run-after-your-passion-kind-of-story. Yes in a way it is, but the execution is beyond description.

Kabir wants to travel, doing internships which can get him out to the splendid world. One such day, he returns home late. He switches on the light to find his father waiting. He asks him what is he doing so late, to which he replies that he was reading. Kabir catches him and says, "So you were reading in the dark!"

Then his father shows him a brochure of a travel agency which has his plans to go trekking with friends. His step-mom enters and tells that they don't have enough money like his rich friends. She asks him to save money, Kabir, in a blunt way tells, he is using his own money for the trekking. Excusing himself to his room, his parents smile at each other; and then Kabir finds a new rucksack gifted to him. His father enters, talks about the dangers of the trek. Kabir tells him this is very important for him to go, and Dad happily replies, "Mere bete ka bahut bahut khayal rakhna"

Now, we arrive at the Expedition. On a night, Kabir escapes silently to discover alone the top of a snowy peak. Naina secretly follows. She gets caught, both sit down and chat about what they want from life. She wants a settled career of a Doctor. he replies, who wants such a life!.

She wants to profess her love for him, but he is going abroad to study Journalism in Chicago. Avi and Aditi are surprised and are partially heartbroken because he will leave them behind. Naina stops her plan of revealing her love, because she knows Kabir gives his dreams highest priority, even more than love.

Eight years, they are apart from each other miles away. Kabir is a videographer with Fox Traveller working in Paris. The scene opens up with the majestic Eiffel Tower. I was mesmerised by the song "Ilahi" played during these few minutes while showing him along with his team making travel episodes, they shoot monuments, street artists, skaters, people in gardens and eat at mouth-watering restaurants. The scene treats us that Kabir fulfilled his wishes to travel the world. His mission to be a Nomad, a wanderer with no strings attached.

It's time to bring back Kabir and Nina; location, The Majestic-wedding of Aditi at Udaipur, India. They collide. They argue. They tease. They fall in nostalgia. They embark on a sight-seeing of Udaipur. they argue more. he tells her why is it best to be travelling, while she points out why it is best to be in hometown throughout life.

He explains that it is an experience to be it with a stranger family and listen to their life stories, while she cuts him saying, he doesnot know how it feels of be with same old friends discussing old memories. and they go on giving exmaples of the likes of  Californian sunshine vs Mumbai rain, Bluberry Chesecake vs Carot Custard (Halwa), Phantom of the Opera at Broadway vs DDLJ at Maratha theatre and the list goes on and on and on! He holds her hand, tells her that she is not absolute right, she is just different than him in thinking. She says she knows that. So, it's our opinions that matters, no absolute facts.

As the wedding day advances, Kabir is drawn towards her. He confronts her and confesses, "I Love You". She replies, "I Love You Too". He hugs her, but she brings out the truth that will he be able to do justice to these three words.

Deep within he knows he cannot leave travelling the world, and Naina can never travel with him for life, her place is her home, serve as a Doctor and live with family. They should amicably separate and forget their love. He is speechless, unable to decide. Tears on her eyes, Naina leaves him for his own good.

Both are heartbroken. Both cannot leave their own lifestyle to be with the other. they again separate. He has a new assignment. she gets back to home.

Kabir returns to his home after years. He stands near his expired father's photo and sees his younger self before he was to about leave for Chicago. Observing his father is a bit sad, he approaches him. Father gives him some more Dollars to which Kabir hesitates. Dad reasons by saying,"Who is the Father here", it's his responsibility, so Kabir has to take the money.

Kabir ask him, "Are you not happy?" Father replies, "Yes, I am happy, of course. But I am is a bit selfish. I do not want to lose you."

Kabir says if that is his wish, he is ready stay. Dad asks him to not go. Kabir replies with a yes. And here the revelation comes, his father tells that if Kabir can really say that he will not go, then that saying is enough for him. He inspires him,  "Go wherever you heart wishes, Do whatever you want, live whichever way you want to live. Remember, what-so-ever happens in life, I am always with you." And they hug.

The scene fades to present time, Kabir cries and his step-mom consoles him. She encourages him, "Your father knew that you had the courage to live on your own terms, and what it pays to live like that. You have lived on your own, and your Dad was always proud of that. If you wish to show how much you love him, do travel more and live life"

On the eve of New Year, Naina sits in her house when the doorbell rings. She opens the door, to to her surprise it is Kabir.
