The Sense of an Assurance

This is an article written in 2015 for which I was awarded 3rd Prize in the Article Writing Category at 46th Varsity Week of Dibrugarh University. Its been almost 3 years and I just stumbled upon it today. It gave me some sweet memories of those times.

I here thus share my article to the world now. Hope my readers feel good and most certainly enjoy the forthcoming paragraphs.

Kiska Hai Ye Tumko Intezar Main Hoon Na
Dekh Lo Idhar To Ek Baar Main Hoon Na

Khaamosh Kyun Ho Jo Bhi Kahna Hai Kaho

Dil Chahe Jitna Pyar Utna Maang Lo

Tumko Milega Utna Pyar Main Hoon Na Aa

Kiska Hai Ye Tumko Intezar Main Hoon Na
Dekh Lo Idhar To Ek Baar Main Hoon Na

This is a Hindi Song from the 2004 Bollywood Film Main Hoon Na staring the Badshah of Bollywood, SRK. It is one of the most beautiful movie of youth, the generation which energise every sphere of a nation. Translation goes like this

Whom are you waiting for, I am here for you
Just look  at this side once, where I stand, I am here for you,
Why the silence in you, just tell me whatever you have to speak
How much ever love your heart desires, ask me for it,
and you will get all that love you wish, I am here for you
Whom are you waiting for, I am here for you,
Just look  at this side once, where I stand, I am here for you...

As I recall, I was just a school going boy when I watched this movie with my parents glued to the TV for almost 3 long hours.

The basic meaning conveyed in these lines is that every person has got an assurance from some other person in life. Just like the Indian Epic Ramayana; here Ram Prasad Sharma (Shah Rukh Khan) protects his brother Laxman Prasad Sharma alias Lucky (Zayed Khan), who does not know his relation with Ram in the beginning, from falling from a roof top. Lucky is terrified by his ordeal but Ram comes to his rescue and asks him to let go his hand off the roof.

He hesitates but Ram consoles him by telling that Main Hoo Naa….. & so Lucky trust his three words and let go his hand. And Ram finally clasp his hand to Lucky’s saving his life. And thus Lucky becomes a lot closer to Ram and Sanjana Bakshi alias Sanju (Amrita Rao), who secretly loves Lucky, thanks Ram and confess to him that he is indeed a Special person and becomes friends with him.

Some of these basic words of assurance, trust, and special can make wonders in our lives. A small kid knows that his/her mother will cook food for him, wash his clothes, and teach him to tie his shoelace. These are some minute things yet they are so important in one’s life. The kid is assured that his mom is always there for him. He/she blindly trusts her and gets all the motherly love.

A mother loves her kid like no one does. For her, kids will always remain kids no matter they become adults. That’s what a mom is about. She is one angel we get without any hurdles.

A father teaches his son to ride a bicycle; the kid is scared; the father tells the son that he will hold the back of the cycle while the kid pedals the cycles slowly. The kid is assured that he can 100% ride the bicycle because he knows his father will never let him fall off the cycle. And gradually after repeated trials, the kid gains confidence and slowly the father releases his grasp off the cycle and the kid without realising keeps on riding it.

He later on realises that he had been riding all by himself and thus is now relaxed that he has learnt to ride. My father after watching the movie told me that he has always been telling me and he told me again that whatever the matter be, whatever the reasons be, he will; without a second thought help me. I will get full support from him. If I have any worries or trouble he will help me out. All I need is tell him and he will let go all my worries.

A sister trusts her brother among the most. She knows that if any of her friends ditches her, makes fun at her, she has her brother who will always be there to be by her side. A sister-brother bond is one of the most special bonds that nature has bestowed upon us. This bond can be cut by none. It’s invincible.

A best friend will always listen to his “yaar”, the buddy. They have such tight bonds that they will help each other even when in later part of their lives they get separated. A “bestie” will call his buddy by phone and not by just sending test messages, because both of them know that even when others will stop caring about them, one has the other for full support and boosting of morale.

Both of them have given assurance to each other without having to say any word of assurance. It goes without any sound. Their eyes and expression are enough to convey that they need each other and it’s understood, “I am there for you, no matter what comes”.

These are few bonds which exudes that assurance is just more than a word.

There is warmth in assurance; there is a beauty in assurance; and there is faith in assurance.

A simple touch on the shoulder can lighten up a tensed person. A simple gesture of the eyes will make him stop his trembling knees and his friend/dad/mom/sister/brother/uncle/aunt will act as a stick for him until he can walk on his own again.

In this materialistic world of today, we get few only a handful of people who will never forget us no matter what we become of. These select people in our lives are priceless. They are beyond any relationships.

As in Hollywood one army man says to the other, “I have your back” & the other says “you have my back”, similarly these people will always be with us in any battle we face in our lives. And we should also do the same to them even though they will never ask that they need us too.

Its wordless; emotions are enough to build that simple yet bold foundation of assurance.
