Avengers Infinity War...the Largest Ensemble

Made it. Finally managed to get the theatre seats in  packed cinema hall. Few movies these days create such type of excitement. What started as an Iron man movie has led to this moment in our lives, the most highly longed movie in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pure hard work. Decade in the making. It has paid well.

Directed by Russo Brothers, who helmed the Cap movies; Winter Soldier and Civil War; have made this a worthy successor of Joss Wheadon's original Avengers. They have made Marvel movie in serious tone with the usual dose of humour. That is the irony, DC that have highly serious themed movies are adding comic element in their new films while Marvel known for rib tickling scenes are moving towards the serious tone introduced by Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Infinity War is heavy on the emotional part. I would say the most sentimental marvel movie ever. And it is apt, for here comes the end of some superheroes. The love and the affection that we adored for a decade has come to some end with the passing of some dear ones. Our hearts will remember them and cherish them.

It is hard to make a film with such a big cast. How to make the subplot lines flow smoothly one after another in the plot...how to give ample space for each character....how to create link among the subplots. Infinity war has definitely delivered with skill and have passed with flying colours. Truly a grand experience for a moviegoer, we can learn so much from this film-making.

Chris Evans bearded and long haired Cap is a delight and Bruce Banner's comical timing is good.

As rightly said by Kevin Feige, I quote, "you could almost go so far as to say he is the main character of the film." The grit and villainy of Thanos is massive. But every Villain has an emotional past which he chases forever. And this has happened to Thanos. He lost his homeland due to overpopulation.  He vowed to bring balance to save the universe. But in an awkward way by killing half the population. Now this is so deep and forces will rally against him.

Even Thanos cries when he has to sacrifice his daughter for gaining the soul stone. and his desire to look peacefully at the sunset. Josh Brolin has executed his role in a commendable manner. the baritone of his voice sparks the fear of Thanos to the power infinity.

Another major subplot is that of estranged team members Iron Man and Captain America. In times of need, although reluctant, Tony tries to call Steve on the flip phone given by him in Civil war. So peculiar of Cap to put his number in the evergreen phone and much loved phone in America. Bruce finally makes the call to Cap. But there is the catch.

In the film, Iron Man and Cap never actually meet. There is no screen sharing sharing among the two at all. They fight against Thanos but in separated worlds. I realised this after the movie ended. I was like, "WOW, not for a moment it came to my mind. It felt like they fought together in the same screen space!"

So, the Civil War scenario is maintained to some extent. There were two teams fighting against each other. There are two teams again fighting, this time against a common enemy, but in separated zones. The humour came when Iron man says that the Avengers Broke-up as in like lovebirds breaking up situation. He and Cap does not talk anymore !

Two Characters of course fight on both side, the "neutral Hulk well actually Bruce" and "one eyed Thor", since they were never part of Civil War. Hulk upon punched by Thanos is scared to come out of Bruce's. He tries hard to call hulk back but to vain. Bruce thus pilots the Hulkbuster instead. The thing that busted him is now his armour.

Thor makes a new hammer; an axe, the Stormbreaker, with help of Peter Dinklage. His character Eitri, the forger and maker of weapons. He helps Thor create Thor's new weapon. Who thought, the Imp would appear. A surprise. Peter has risen so high and has garnered much respect among his fans.

Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye was missed immensely given his centrally emphasised plot in Ultron . We missed some arrows. Then again, MCU has gave a small spark of love between between Bruce and Nathasha (Black Widow). Come on, When will you show them their love for each other. We need a Hulk Standalone movie with Natasha his heroine. We fans need one Hulk movie desperately. The way Colombia Picture made some sort of deal with Marvel, can not Universal and Marvel make the same. The movie will be worth it. Ang Lee's Hulk movie in 2003 is still a great superhero movie on the lines of Dark Knight. So make one more. Get Ang lee to direct it, I am sure it will be mega hit.

Now to a question that has haunted us more than ever. Who dies finally. Iron Man. He is injured so badly by Thanos. Cap, whose whole hand can just hold one finger of Thanos. Thor who is mauled by Thanos mercilessly. Does among these three principal Superheros die?

Image
Beloved Loki dies in his final act of mischief to Thanos. Thor realises that this time Loki won't resurrect. Heimdall breathes his last. Gamora the love of Starlord is sacrificed on the alters of soul stone.

Wanda's love Vision dies with plucking of his mind stone by Thanos. The love of Wanda for Vision is inspiring shown as how heartily she fights Thanos to save him from dying and also how she reluctantly agrees to destroy Vision to save this stone from the hand of Thanos.

It came a bit of a surprise when none of the three main characters died. But again, this is half the story. The Sequel to Infinity War is yet to come. Perhaps in that movie finally someone will die, either Thor or Cap or Iron Man.

This movie can be said the best work of MCU, but my favorite Marvel movie will always be Civil War. The kind of Maturity it showed and the way it wooed the cine-goers is unparallelled. I am a DC universe fan, so there is always comparison of Marvel to DC. And The Dark Knight, precursor to DCEU is the greatest Superhero film made. Civil War has been capable to match that height. with that Cap becoming my favourite character in Marvel.

Way to go, MCU. Your dedication is so great. I salute to your persistence. DC can get a lot of inspiration from your work.

We have been delivered an awesomely brilliant film this year. Eagerly waiting for Infinity War Sequel in 2019.
